Faith

Faith Community PartnershipsFaith communities are rich repositories of professional gifts and life experiences. Through the Open Table model, faith communities deploy these gifts and talents to restore a family in poverty to self-sufficiency and wholeness.

Open Table started in a faith community through its youth mission outreach to serve the homeless. Members of this congregation came together to serve one homeless man who remains self-sufficient almost 7 years later.

Diverse faith communities are operating and/or launching Tables:

  • Presbyterian
  • Assembly of God
  • Episcopal
  • Southern Baptist
  • Baptist
  • Lutheran
  • United Church of Christ
  • Catholic
  • Methodist
  • Church of God In Christ
  • Non-Denominational

Faith communities are incorporating the Open Table model in their mission ministries to enhance the effectiveness of their outreach in:

  • Prisoner Re-entry
  • Young adults aging out of foster care
  • Poverty Outreach
  • Refugee Outreach

Table volunteers report being transformed by the Table experience of journeying with their brother of sister. The work of the Table produces deep friendships between the family served and the Table volunteers, known as Chairs. Friendships endure long after the family becomes stabilized and the Table’s work concludes.
